Officials said the process to put all Russian poplars in the campus to auction for their felling has been started and a committee in this regard has already been constituted on directions of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi.
Realizing the hazardous effects of Russian poplars on public health, the Kashmir University has initiated the process to axe such trees in the campus.
Officials said the process to put all Russian poplars in the campus to auction for their felling has been started and a committee in this regard has already been constituted on directions of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi.
The committee has been tasked with working out modalities, terms and conditions for auction of Russian poplar trees, in view of the High Court directions and the University’s commitment for safety of its students.
The University has also made a fervent appeal to other institutions to get rid of such trees in the interest of public health.
Pertinently, the High Court has recently directed felling of all Russian poplars.
